A Very Important Baby
Matthew 1:20–25; Luke 2:1–20
An angel told Joseph that Mary was going to have a baby boy who was the Son of God. Joseph believed the angel.
When the emperor ordered everyone to go to the city their families were from so he could count them, Mary and Joseph left for Bethlehem.
“We’ll be there soon and we’ll get a room in the inn,” Joseph told Mary. It was nearly time for the baby to be born, and Mary was uncomfortable riding on the donkey.
Bethlehem was filled with people who had come for the census. “I’ll get a room. Then you can rest,” Joseph told Mary.
But soon he returned with bad news. “The inn is full. The innkeeper said we can stay in his stable, though.”
“OK. I just want to lie down,” Mary said. In the stable Joseph made a bed for Mary, and soon she fell asleep. She woke him up later to tell him the baby was coming. Joseph watched in awe as Mary wrapped Jesus in strips of cloth.
